Personal Effects: Deborah Frank

The DEPARTURES Executive Managing Editor talks the most important things in her everyday fitness and beauty arsenal.

"To cull down my long list of personal obsessions, I decided to focus on my beauty and fitness must-haves. I recently drove four days in the California Mille, a 1,000-mile vintage car rally through Northern California, in a 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster with the top down the entire time. Needless to say, my face got sunburned and my lips dried out, despite the numerous Chap Stick applications. As soon as I returned home I applied Linné Botanicals Smooth Body Balm all over and within a day, the dry layers of skin were exfoliated and the smooth hydrated skin appeared; it was especially noticeable on my lips. Linné body balm was my go-to before the trip for its fresh scent, but now even more so, for its super-hydrating properties. I always wear black eyeliner, even when I am working out in the gym or at the beach surfing, and Too Faced Bulletproof 24-Hour Shadow Liner in Black Out stays on through it all. It is literally budge-proof. I attend Spin class twice a week and Giro Apeckx Road Cycling Shoes make all the difference in getting the most effective workout; plus, I can use them with my road bike as well. And for weight training, Under Armour Women’s CTR Trainer HF Gloves are not too bulky and look more feminine than most. For my dry, thick, curly hair, Deesse’s hair treatment from Japan is the easiest way to deep-condition without having to wait 20 minutes like most masks. Once a week, I use it instead of my regular conditioner and it eliminates frizz, fly aways and makes my hair healthier overall. The best part is it comes in single-serving tubes that are great for traveling and allow me to always put on the right amount without over doing it."
