The Design Lover’s Must-Read

James T. Murray

An inspirational new book.

The graphic design duo M/M (Paris) unveiled a 528-page monograph, M to M of M/M (Paris) (Rizzoli), in February, cataloguing a 20-year career that includes interior decoration for the legendary Parisian hotel Thoumieux, graphics for the cover of Björk’s 2001 album Vespertine and a redesign of Vogue Paris in 2003. The brilliant and brilliantly eccentric Michael Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak may straddle the line between cutting edge and old-fashioned (they remain devoted to pencil on paper, often overlaid on images by provocateurs Inez and Vinoodh), but they don’t fit into one category. “We try to surprise,” says Augustyniak. “It’d be terrible to use a formula.” For more information, go to mmparis.com.
