620 Chair Programme, Dieter Rams, 1962
German modern master Dieter Rams reinvigorated design with just about everything he did, especially his work for electronics brand Braun. The 620 Chair Programme followed suit: it brought the revolutionary idea of modular shelving to seating. The arms of the 620 can be removed and joined with others to make a loveseat or three-seater sofa. No wonder Vitsoe—the British manufacturer of Rams’s famous 606 Universal Shelving System—brought it back into production in 2013.
