Looking to up your cooking game now that you're spending so much time at home? Well, world-renowned chef Daniel Boulud is here to help. The American Express Global Dining Collection chef has teamed up with sommelier Daniel Johnnes, founder of the La Paulée de New York Burgundy wine festival, to offer Card Members a summer cooking series that will make anyone a master in the kitchen.
"As a chef in NYC, for decades I have been supporting small and local farmers," said Boulud. "This opportunity came to be able to highlight the Hudson Valley region through an effort made by FarmOn! to support farmers. It was a great moment to collaborate together in a different way. We cooked and spent time at Empire Farm, using local ingredients while bringing focus to the rich farming region of the Hudson Valley. It is important to strike awareness and support our farmers."
The three-part virtual series, made in partnership with American Express and the FarmOn! Foundation, follows Boulud as he prepares a range of delicious meals—including Provençal Lamb Daube, Crispy Pork Belly with Lentils and Cabbage Slaw, and Poulet à la Crème. In addition to the recipes, guests can enjoy a wine pairing for each dish curated by Johnnes.
Card Members have the chance to purchase the La Paulée Wine Box for $150, which includes recipe cards for Boulud's dishes; a selection of three wines—Domaine Moureau-Naudet Chablis 2018, Domaine Vincent Latour Meursault “Clos des Magny” 2017, and Jean Marie Fourrier Bourgogne Rouge 2017; and tasting notes from Johnnes for the included vintages.
In addition to the summer cooking series, American Express announced earlier this summer an initiative to encourage consumers to support small businesses by shopping local. Through September 20, 2020, eligible and enrolled U.S. Card Members can receive $5 back after spending $10 or more at any eligible small merchant in the U.S., up to 10 times—whether that's online, in person, or curbside.
For those staying in the Hudson Valley this summer and want to get their hands on local produce, American Express is offering a Summer Farm Essentials basket curated by Boulud, Johnnes, and FarmOn! Foundation founder Tessa, Edick. Baskets will highlight seasonal ingredients sourced locally and are availble exclusively for Card Members to purchase through July 31, for curbside pickup on August 1 and 2. The baskets are also eligible for the Shop Small Offer and all proceeds go to benefit the FarmOn! Foundation.
