For almost 40 years, Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto has been at the forefront of fashion, completely revolutionizing the industry with his avant-garde aesthetic, extravagant tailoring, and a penchant for black. And now, the innovative designer is crossing industry lines and bringing his signature style to the world of Haute Horlogerie.

Yamamoto has teamed up with Swiss watchmaker Hublot to release a limited edition version of one of the company’s most iconic timepieces. The Big Bang GMT All Black Yohji Yamamoto fuses the designer’s signature black aesthetic and Hublot’s complicated GMT manufacture movement that enables it to display the time in two different time zones.

The timepiece has quite literally an all-black design—from the 45mm case and bezel made from micro-blasted and polished ceramic to the sapphire dial, hour hands, and rubber strap. Yamamoto’s signature is incorporated at six o’clock while Hublot’s logo stands at 12 o’clock.

The watch is not just incredibly cool-looking but it also epitomizes the style of two names that completely transformed their respective field—Hublot with its Art of Fusion philosophy and its radical approach to watchmaking and Yamamoto, with his unconventional approach to fashion.

“This watch can easily display the time zones of the two cities where I'm based, Tokyo and Paris. Moreover, the hours are invisible. As a person who isn’t always forthcoming, I find that highly amusing,” Yamamoto stated in a press release. “I'm pleased to have taken part in the creation of this model to celebrate the opening of Hublot Boutique in Ginza, a unique, famous, and iconic neighborhood of Japan.”

The Big Bang GMT All Black Yohji Yamamoto is released in 50 pieces and will be available for sale only at Hublot’s new flagship store in Tokyo that is slated to open this month.
