Alfredo Paredes’ American Dream in Provincetown

Ralph Lauren’s longtime creative officer brings his rugged American aesthetic to...

It’s hard feeling attractive in sweatpants. The comfy loungewear staple went from something we’d throw on for Sunday errands to our everyday uniform during the pandemic. And the way things are going now it doesn’t look like we’re switching back to trousers anytime soon. Still, while we work from home we need our everyday wardrobe to help us look and feel good.

Enter: sweatsuits. You see sweatpants and t-shirts alone can feel scrubby but throw on a pair of sweatpants and matching top and you have an intentional, dare we say, chic, monochrome outfit.

“A matching set instantly elevates any loungewear look,” says Caroline Maguire, Fashion Director at Shopbop. “I love that they require minimal styling yet remain effortlessly put together, and don’t require you to sacrifice comfort for style.” Easy, versatile go-tos that feel sophisticated are exactly what we need during the lockdown. And luckily for us, in addition to some of our favorites, there are a new crop of luxe loungewear brands, from Les Tiens to Entireworld, that are offering sets in a variety of gorgeous, vintage-inspired hues.

Another bonus: most of these brands are American-made and use sustainable materials and practices. We round up ten sets to cozy up in this fall.

Forget just comfort, you can feel really good about living in sweatpants thanks to Pangaia. The brand uses 100% GOT certified organic cotton, environmentally friendly dyes, and a recycled water system to construct it’s light, breathable and very cool sportswear. If that isn’t convincing enough, Pangaia also plants one mangrove tree for each product purchased inorder to help produce more Co2.

MATE Vintage Pullover and Classic Jogger in Bone

MATE’s slightly retro and feminine casualwear is even more covetable thanks to the brand’s signature earthy and muted color palette. “We draw a lot of inspiration from nature for our colors as well as our fabrications,” says founder Kayti O'Connell Carr. Since we’re all craving the clam of the outdoors during these stressful times it’s no surprise that business for the clean essentials brand has increased five times since the pandemic.

With a celebrity cult following, founder Courtney Ogilvie attributes the obsession to a combination of the fabrication, construction, and well-considered color palette. “The material we’ve developed is very custom,” says Ogilvie of the signature soft cotton jersey. “It’s a luxurious cross weave fabric patented and created on a loom, which provides much more longevity in the material.” Plus, the garments are constructed using traditional atelier sewing techniques so they hang perfectly well.
