The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed the world as we know it. And because leisure travel has practically stalled, the situation has put an enormous strain on African countries heavily dependent on revenue from tourism. As a result, protecting wildlife-rich regions has become incredibly challenging, and there has been a rise in poaching. Fortunately, international organizations are working to support local authorities and offer legal help to fight wildlife crime and protect animals in the wild. One such organization is Space for Giants, and its latest initiative merges the worlds of international conservation, fashion, and jewelry to raise funds and awareness for African wildlife preservation.

The international charity, in partnership with Net-a-Porter and Gemfields, is kicking off its Walk for Giants campaign, the proceeds from which will support efforts to protect Africa’s elephants and their natural habitat.

The campaign features multiple capsule collections—one from Gemfields, a supplier of responsibly sourced colored gemstones, and 15 more from Net-a-Porter that partnered with brands such as Burberry, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Brunello Cucinelli, and Chantecaille.

Gemfields’ Walk for Giants capsule collection uses exclusively the company’s Zambian emeralds and Mozambican rubies set in 44 pieces by 12 brand partners including Fabergé, Backes & Strauss, Bina Goenka, Fehmida Lakhany, and Francis de Lara.

The advertising campaign was shot at Enasoit Game Sanctuary in Laikipia, Kenya, by Francesco Carrozzini and stars models Arizona Muse and Selena Forrest.

“What Walk for Giants so brilliantly amplifies is that conserving existing natural landscapes is not just critical for the future of humanity but is also the best economic deal around. Nature-based businesses bring jobs, buy from local suppliers, pay taxes, and build national economies,” said Dr. Max Graham, founder and CEO of Space for Giants. “But the natural assets these enterprises rely on – including Africa’s last populations of megafauna—are under grave risk. We must protect them now, so they can continue to deliver their value forever.”
