Horologists love timepieces for different reasons. Perhaps they are made from rare parts, took months to create or feature supreme accuracy. But if you’re a watch lover and traveler, Montblanc just created the ultimate piece for globetrotters.

To complete the Star Legacy 2020 collection, the German luxury goods company just launched their newly innovated Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum. Originally created in 2014, the new version comes in a stainless-steel case, or 18K rose gold and is powered by an automatic movement equipped with a unique function developed in-house by Montblanc’s engineers. The function is centered on making world time easy to set and read. With this watch, you can see all 24 time zones at a glance and know instantly whether the cities are in daytime or nighttime.
You can change the time with the push of a button to adjust to where you are in the world. “When traveling, the user only has to press on the pusher located at eight o’clock until the reference city is at the top,” the company described in a release. “The hour and minute hands will automatically synchronize, making the timepieces practical and easy-to-use, especially for frequent travelers.”
The name Orbis Terrarum has travel ties too. It’s Latin for “globe,” “earth,” and “world.” It also refers to the first maps produced by humankind. The Montblanc Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum is also water-resistant to 50 meters and features two strap options with worldly ties. Noth, the blue Sfumato strap for the steel version and a brown Sfumato strap for the rose gold versions come from the Pelletteria, Florence.
“This is a playful complication that will make the experience of travel more enjoyable and inspire people to become global citizens,” the company described. “Those timepieces will bring joy and adventure to the experience of travel, while also providing inspiration for watch aficionados.”
