Drake’s love for high-end watches has never been a secret. Thanks to his Instagram feed, we know that the Canadian rapper owns a few Rolex timepieces including a rare gold Daytona with a Paul Newman-style tribute dial that is one of the most coveted watches by collectors nowadays. Drake has also been spotted in a limited edition Richard Milles piece that retails for a cool $750,000 and a custom Patek Philippe Nautilus that he wore to a game of his favorite Toronto Raptors last year.
And by the looks of it, Drake definitely has a soft spot for the Genevan luxury watch manufacturer and its iconic Nautilus model. The singer just revealed on Instagram a custom version of that same Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726 and it’s an eye-catcher, to say the least.
In the accompanying caption, Drake talks about Louis Vuitton designer Virgil Abloh who created the timepiece for the rapper and who himself owns a custom version of it. But back to Drake. The singer’s Nautilus is encrusted with emeralds and rumor has it that watch customizers Mad Paris are responsible for the unique look.
The self-winding mechanical timepiece is one of Patek Philippe’s most recognizable models. It was launched by the company in 1976 and features an annual calendar as well as a moon phase display on the dial.
Funny enough, just a few days before Drake showed off the new watch to his more than 62 million followers he referred to it in rapper Future’s new song “Life Is Good.” In the chorus, Drake sings: “Virgil got that Patek on my wrist goin' nuts.”
We guess that’s Drake’s way of saying “thank you” to the designer.
