For most the northern hemisphere, winter is—fingers crossed—finally over. While we’re all looking forward to warmer weather (and all those summer festivities), first our tired winter-weary skin may need a little boost. Luckily, Tata Harper, the woman at the forefront of the luxe organic beauty movement, was able to gift DEPARTURES readers with a few exclusive spring skin refresh tips.

What made you decide to create your line of organic products?

When my stepfather was diagnosed with cancer, I realized our daily habits play such a major role in our health and well being, including the products we use on our skin and in our homes. This was the moment I started turning around products I was using and reading the ingredient labels. Some I used to think were so luxurious were actually full of potentially toxic and synthetic chemicals. When we started Tata Harper Skincare, my goal was simple: create the best skincare for women of the future. One that was natural, non-toxic and completely non-artificial.

How has "going organic" influenced your life and beauty regime?

I feel that living an organic lifestyle has given me a lot of peace of mind, and I’m making the right decisions for my body. It’s so important to take care of yourself in every aspect–what you eat, resting, sleep, working out, skincare. Listen to your body and the signs it gives you. Also, eating organically makes me feel more energized and I have more clarity of the mind.

What would you say to someone who would like to go a little more organic with their skincare regime?

If you care about health and well-being, it’s such an important move. Pay attention to what you put on your skin, not just what you eat or are putting inside of the body. Remember that your skin is your largest organ. It’s a very wise decision if you are a wellness-oriented person. You can start small and incorporate more organic things over time, so you don’t get overwhelmed. We believe that natural/organic skincare is the ultimate luxury.

What would you recommend for someone who wanted to get their skin glowing for warmer weather?

For spring, I would recommend using our two-step Glow Getter facial to shed off dry skin. After a long winter, skin needs a spring cleaning to get it glowing! Typically, I like to exfoliate and use our Glow Getter 3-4 days in a row; it really revives the skin, leaving it radiant and glowing for days as you enter a new season. The combination of our Regenerating Cleanser and Resurfacing Mask is a total powerhouse treatment, that polishes and refines.

What is the ideal spring nighttime ritual?

At night I love to double cleanse – especially in the spring/summer months, this is a super important step that is often overlooked. First, I massage in Nourishing Oil Cleanser. I follow with the Purifying Cleanser, especially when I’m travelling, and my skin has been exposed to a lot of pollution. Then I use the Concentrated Brightening Essence and Elixir Vitae Serum on my face and the Boosted Contouring Serum on my neck. I like a thicker eye cream at night so usually use a thick layer of the Boosted Contouring Eye Mask, then Replenishing Nutrient Complex as my last layer.

What are some special tips you can recommend for tired skin, under-eyes, or for a more youthful glow?

Two tips I use for tired skin include mixing my moisturizer and facial oil together. For example, I will put two pumps of Reparative Moisturizer and Retinoic Nutrient Complex in my hand and mix together before applying. The combination really leaves my skin looking super radiant.

I also use Clarifying Mask a few times a week when I’m feeling extra tired. The chlorella nourishes and hydrates with essential vitamins and fatty acids that leaves my skin looking rejuvenated, awake and glowing.

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty extends beyond the physical in my opinion. Beauty has to do with magnetism, confidence, health, vitality, etc. I find beauty in many things, not just people. I find beauty in music, words, nature, images, clothing, kindness. Beauty starts from within…the more you take care of yourself the more you feel that is reflected on the outside.
