French women are admired around the world for their effortlessly chic sense of style. Actress and style icon Marion Cotillard defined it as a “sense of freedom,” while French fashion photographer and illustrator Garance Doré said it’s all about attitude. But developing that self-confidence and sense of liberty doesn’t stop at picking the right clothes, beauty plays a major role, too. So if you want to add a little bit of that je ne sais quoi to your daily beauty routine, we’ve got you covered.
This week The NPG Group, a French market research company, released its annual consumer report on the top-selling beauty products in the country and we have to say we’re not at all surprised by the results.
Yves Saint Laurent Beauty’s Volume Effet Faux Cils is the mascara most French women had in their beauty drawers this year. Infused with Moroccan argan oil and pro-vitamin B5, this mascara not only builds volume and length but it also cares for lashes leaving them looking fuller and healthier over time. In fact, this particular mascara is so good, French women made it a best-seller five years in a row. The number two spot in this category goes to Chanel’s Le Volume de Chanel mascara, which is also pretty popular with American customers, too, judging by some one thousand reviews it has on Nordstrom’s website.
In the fragrance category, the big winner, according to The NPG Group, is Lancôme’s “La Vie Est Belle” perfume, the face of which is the gorgeous Julia Roberts. The sweet scent, which was launched in 2012, includes notes of iris, vanilla, and praline and “is a modern interpretation of an oriental fragrance with a twist of gourmand,” according to the brand.
