You can buy a lot of things for $19 million––your own private island, lots of not-private islands, an unimaginable number of Rolls Royces. You could also buy “La Voiture Noire,” a brand new car from Bugatti that just broke a record as most expensive new car when it sold for $19 million.
The sports car, which has a 16-cylinder engine, was sold to an undisclosed buyer, according to the Associated Press. The car was debuted at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland, which is running through March 17th.
More about that engine: it’s the first car to have one with 16-cylinders and a 1,500 horsepower. SkyNews shares that Bugatti attributes this design as an “homage to the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic,” of which four were manufactured between the years of 1936 and 1938.

Only one of La Voiture Noire will be made and its unveiling was in part to help celebrate Bugatti’s 110th anniversary. ABC News shares that the car is a seven-speed automatic with a top speed of 261 mph. The same report shared that it’s expected to go from 0 to 61 mph in 2.4 seconds. Now, that is a true anniversary present.
