Although we can't enjoy theater in person right now, it hasn't stopped the entertainment field from engaging audiences. With the help of American Express, shows from Broadway in New York to The National Theater in London have been streamed virtually for fans. And now the credit card company is sponsoring The Public Theater's upcoming virtual gala "We Are One Public."
Taking place on a to-be-determined date, the virtual event will be hosted by Modern Family star and Broadway veteran Jesse Tyler Ferguson on The Public Theater's YouTube and Facebook pages. It will also feature performances and appearances from Antonio Banderas, Danielle Brooks, Glenn Close, Elvis Costello, Claire Danes, Anne Hathaway, Oscar Isaac, Sandra Oh, Sting, and many more.
"I miss theater terribly right now, but I am so honored to be able to digitally host this year's Public Theater Gala on June 1," Ferguson wrote on Instagram. "We have traditionally gathered for this event each summer on the lawn outside the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. This year we will join one another from our own homes. But like we sang in ON THE TOWN: 'We'll catch up some other time.'"
While the event is free, you can RSVP to be entered into a raffle to receive a $100 Seamless eGift Card. Anyone who RSVPs or donates will be entered into the raffle. And if you donate certain dollar amounts, the famous NYC theater will throw in some extras as well. For example, if you donated $50,000, you can host your own private pre-show Cocktail Reception with Public Theater Artist and up to 20 guests and get two tickets to a Shakespeare in the Park 2021 opening night performance and celebration.
This marks the latest endeavor by American Express to both support the arts and entertain people at home. The company recently supported the livestream event with the hit Broadway show Jagged Little Pill featuring Alanis Morissette. On the American Express Experiences hub, people can enjoy virtual sports, entertainment, and music experiences while staying home.
