Although we can't enjoy theater in person right now, it hasn't stopped the entertainment field from engaging audiences. With the help of American Express, shows from Broadway in New York to The National Theater in London have been streamed virtually for fans. Now the credit card company is sponsoring The Public Theater's upcoming virtual event “FORWARD. TOGETHER.” Featuring world-renowned performers like Meryl Streep and Lin-Manuel Miranda, the theatrical event will be directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon. Free to the public, “FORWARD. TOGETHER.” will live stream on Tuesday, October 20 at 8 p.m. ET. The Public Theater will stream the performance event on their website, Youtube channel, and Facebook page.

The performance aspect of the event offers something for every theater enthusiast to enjoy. Jelani Alladin will perform a new song written solely for the Public Works’ production of Hercules. There will be a preview of “Say Their Names,” a visual art installation to be projected on the front of The Public Theater building. In addition to names like Alladin, Miranda, and Streep, artists and actors scheduled to appear or perform include Antonio Banderas, Elvis Costello, Phillippa Soo, and John Lithgow, among others.
The October 20th event is free, but with the goal of raising money to support New York’s Public Theater, there are a myriad of ways to show support while enjoying pre-show events. An online auction preceding the main event will open on October 13 and run through October 21. Among the auction’s offerings are exclusive packages perfect for theater, arts, and culture lovers, like passes to the premiere of Lee Daniels’ upcoming film The United States vs. Billie Holiday, or rare items, like an original sketch of the Hamilton set (signed and framed). Those interested in participating in the auction can find details and bidding information on The Public Theater’s website.

Recently, the company has offered Card Members access to events like La Fête du Champagne and an exclusive concert with Alicia Keys, and supported the live stream event of the hit Broadway show Jagged Little Pill featuring Alanis Morissette. On the American Express Experiences hub, Card Members can enjoy virtual sports, entertainment, and music experiences while staying home.
