Designers are always looking to expand their crafts and push boundaries. So, when London-based designer Thomas Heatherwick was asked to tackle his first residential build in Singapore, he jumped at the opportunity. The result was Eden, a 22-story-tall luxury tower inspired by Singapore's vision as a "city in a garden."

Eden's concept—which represents unspoiled natural beauty—has been incorporated into the property's design. Among the steel and glass towers is the juxtaposition of architectural biophilia and opulent urban living. By straying away from the conventional square residential building and moving amenities to the perimeter, each apartment can have an ample central living space surrounded by expansive, shell-like balconies.

"Each apartment has a unique hanging balcony, planted with handpicked tropical greenery—a private garden in the sky that affords complete privacy while framing unobstructed 270-degree views across the city," Adrian To, Director of Residential for Swire Properties, the project developer, told Departures. "The result is the creation of calm and peaceful outdoor spaces for every resident, where they can feel the benefits of nature and relax."

Given the focus on greenery, it's not surprising that Eden has incredible environmental credentials as well. Singapore's Building and Construction Authority awarded the development a platinum rating in its Green Mark Award for Buildings in 2018, a rare achievement for a residential property.

Swire Properties, well-known for creating exclusive residential developments like OPUS HONG KONG, began its relationship with Heatherwick Studio more than a decade ago. So, when they acquired the property located at 2 Draycott Park, the company chose Heatherwick Studio, knowing they would deliver an exceptional level of creativity, luxury, and attention to detail that distinguishes Swire Properties' global portfolio of high-end residential developments.

"This is our second time working with Thomas Heatherwick. We selected his team to create this unique development, which is his first completed residential project worldwide," said To. "We know that taking lessons from nature and using them in design has become an important aspect of much of the studio's work, no matter what the typology. It's part of the reason we wanted to work together on EDEN."

To added, "Thomas Heatherwick and his team have brought our vision of creating an exceptional living experience to life, and EDEN will undoubtedly set a new benchmark for sustainable ultra-luxury residences in Singapore."
