I’m turning 40 this month and don’t know where to celebrate. Rome is my favorite city, and I think we will go there for a weekend. Then I thought we would visit two other places in Italy; I was thinking maybe Tuscany or the Aeolian Islands. Is the spring season good for these places? If so, can you recommend anywhere to stay? Sorry to bother you with this—you’re the only opinion I trust!
Here’s What We Suggest:
Definitely do Rome and Tuscany in the spring, but you should not go to the Aeolian Islands, as it is way too early in the season for those remote places! In Rome, our absolute hands-down favorite is the Residenza Napoleone III (residenzanapoleone.com) in the Palazzo Ruspoli. Driving through Tuscany this time of year is absolutely divine. It’s just 190 miles from Rome to Florence, and the Tuscan area in between is truly spectacular. Among our favorite places to stay: Relais la Suvera (lasuvera.it), Borgo San Felice (borgosanfelice.com), Locanda dell’Amorosa (amorosa.it), Relais Villa Arceno (hotelrelais.it), and Borgo Santo Pietro (borgosantopietro.com), near-ish Siena.
