An inside look at the sartorial strides being made on the West Coast.
Shoes by George Esquivel
They may have an Italian pedigree, but George Esquivel’s bespoke shoes have serious West Coast flair. A favorite of the R&B-glam songstress Janelle Monáe, Esquivel’s brogues, derbies and oxfords are handcrafted at his Orange County atelier, combining classic Italianate style with unexpected additions: a flash of metallic silver, a painted wing tip, a lime-green tassel. For spring, he’s developed a line of watchbands with southern California watchmaker Westime, crafted from natural Italian Vachetta leather and painted in blue, black, green or burgundy. Wingtip shoes, $575; available at bergdorfgoodman.com. For other stores, go to esquivelshoes.com. —Jamie Wiebe
