Savannah is widely known for its dreamy Spanish moss and romantic squares, but there's so much more to do in this history-rich city than stroll! With buzzy new restaurants and shops popping up and vacationers from across the world popping in, this Georgia gem is inarguably in the middle of a rebirth. No place illustrates the city’s evolution better than the Perry Lane Hotel in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District.

The hospitality hotspot opened just this summer. Featuring The Emporium Kitchen & Wine Market, a local-fare focused restaurant and wine market, craft cocktail spot The Wayward, and the sophisticated rooftop bar Peregrin (which comes complete with sweeping views of the Savannah River), Perry Lane Hotel is superbly positioned to give guests a taste of Southern charm amidst cosmopolitan luxury.

It’s no surprise, then, that Perry Lane Hotel caught the attention of Wendy Nguyen, the personality behind the hugely popular style account, Wendy’s Lookbook. Wendy and her photographer boyfriend, Colin, escaped to the hotel for 48 hours in early September—they even chose to forgo the first days of New York Fashion Week in favor of a Southern retreat.

“The joy of waking up, grabbing a cup of coffee, and smelling the freshly baked breads and pastries reminded me of Paris.”

Wendy started each day of her stay with coffee and country cooking at Emporium. “The joy of waking up, grabbing a cup of coffee, and smelling the freshly baked breads and pastries reminded me of Paris,” Wendy says. She and Colin tried more than just the sweet treats at this all-day eatery though, instead opting to try a Southern delicacy they’d be hard-pressed to find back home in NYC: grits. “For breakfast, we had grits and eggs,” she says. “We had breakfast and dinner at Emporium and really loved the comfort-food touch.” The restaurant offers all kinds of elevated fare for dinner—think rabbit ragout with house-made pappardelle, moules frites, and rotisserie chicken with potato purée and farmer's market vegetables—but Wendy and Colin stuck with the Southern stable and feasted on bourbon-brined pork chops with cane water grits and Brussels sprouts.

“What’s better than games with cocktails?”

After dinner was drinks at Peregrin, who’s local craft beers, regionally inspired light bites like deviled eggs and pimento cheese, shareable cocktails (Elderflower Margarita and Plantar’s Punch, a mixture of dark and light rum, Aperol, orange, lime, and passionfruit syrup), and social-media-worthy views have quickly established the bar as a favorite of locals and out-of-towners alike. “We found every excuse to go back to the rooftop at sunset each day. It’s so much fun!” Wendy says. “Colin and I ended up playing cornhole and watching the sunset— because what’s better than games with cocktails?”

“This hotel encourages you to explore… within the walls of each room as well as Savannah itself.”

“This hotel encourages you to explore… within the walls of each room as well as Savannah itself,” Wendy says. But when they weren’t savoring the food scene or exploring the city, Wendy and Colin retreated to their suite. According to Wendy, the room’s blue walls, towering windows, and little gifts like sugar snap cookies made the space particularly serene and inviting. “For the days that you want to get away and spend quality time writing, reading, or reflecting, this hotel is perfect,” she says.

“Perry Lane Hotel has the essence of a boutique luxury hotel but feels more like a Southern mansion,” Wendy says. “[It’s] an incredible home where every guest is treated like a family member, where every room is decorated with beautiful artwork, and where the food is warm and comforting.”
