The jewelry designer shares her tips and tricks for how to pack for a wedding weekend this season.
Jennifer Fisher has had a big year: This past spring, the CFDA recognized designer celebrated her self-titled jewelry line’s 10th anniversary, launched a new collection that dabbles in color for the first (Fisher is known for her strictly metallic statement pieces), and she turned 40. But this mother of two is only just getting started, with the summer season just heating up.
Fresh off the plane, returning from a friend’s sunny Malibu wedding, we caught up with Fisher in her downtown New York studio to talk packing lists—specifically, how she tackles the endless stream of summer wedding weekends. Fisher is known, after all, to turn heads with her penchant for dramatic proportions and a fashion-forward wardrobe—chock full of pieces by Balenciaga, Celine, and newcomers like Hellessy and Johanna Ortiz—have made the New Yorker a street-style fixture of sorts.
Here she shares her tips for the best go-to designers for gowns, sunnies, and shoes as well as some tried-and-true tricks for staying sane and healthy while on the road. Click through the slideshow for a run-down of the things she never jet-sets without.
You’re just returning from a wedding in Palm Springs. What are some of your must-have items if you are packing for a weekend filled with social events? I have Celine slides in every color—I wear them with everything. They are even great poolside shoes. That is my version of flip-flops. Other essentials include a straw hat by Ryan Roche, and a few pairs of sunglasses by Illesteva, Porsche Design, and Celine. Everything fits snuggly into my Tumi Black Vapor, the suitcase I can’t go without.
What jewelry do you wear to compliment a bold one-shoulder gown, like the Johanna Ortiz navy-and-white look you recently wore? I’ll wear a statement earring on one ear only over my exposed shoulder. I love this look! I’ll pair this will a small structured clutch; Edie Parker and Rauwolf are my go-to designers for those.
Are there any pieces of jewelry you never take off? I always wear my personalized ear cuffs. They stay on my ear at all times. My children’s names, Shane and Drew, are stamped on one, and Kevin's (my husband) and my initials are stamped on the other. Even if it comes off—I am currently carrying it in my bag in a special baggie—my good luck charm necklace always comes with me.
We are in love with the colorful enamel collection you released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Jennifer Fisher Jewelry. Do you have a favorite piece? The black enamel heart is my new favorite piece, but I also love the signet ring as it was part of the first group of enamel pieces that I designed.
What is always in your carry-on? Tatcha Dewy Skin mist, Pure Digestive enzymes, and coconut Balm Dotcom by Glossier.
I know you’re a great cook and very active. I think I even once read you would switch hotels if the gym was poorly equipped! How does that play into your packing list? Any tips for staying healthy and active during a busy trip? I’ve changed my workout routine drastically within the last six months. I now only stretch and do yoga, which is actually great for packing on trips because I don’t have to bring anything extra, except for a pair of workout leggings. Hydrating is super important for me while flying—I am always drinking lots of water. I don’t juice because of the sugar: I don’t believe in juicing. I do believe in taking digestive enzymes. I also take a vitamin C boost twice a day, morning and night—it saves me.
