Uzoamaka Maduka, Editor in Chief of the American Reader
Blessed with statuesque height (5 feet 11) and razor-sharp brains (Princeton grad), Uzoamaka Maduka, 27, goes against the grain: She cofounded literary magazine The American Reader in 2012, as publishing rang its death knell. Last fall, countering the industry’s digital exodus, she made the Reader— which counts Joyce Carol Oates among its contributors—print-only. “Forums for bold, uncompromising voices—driven by something other than the desire for Likes—were disappearing,” she says. “Being masochists, we created one.” Michael Kors t-shirt dress, $495, and skirt, $8,995. Prada purse, $2,050. Bulgari bracelet, $5,800. Eddie Borgo pearl rings, $150. Michelle Fantaci ring, $1,200.
