Even before graduating from New York University in 2006, Patrick Mele (pronounced May-lay) had been immersed in the world of retail design.

Under the tutelage of branding savants Kate and Andy Spade, he curated art and antiques for window displays in Kate Spade stores and, upon graduation, worked on interiors for Ralph Lauren Home stores. Now, having struck out on his own with fabric sold at John Rosselli and residential projects in Westchester, New York, Mele has made the leap to full-fledged designer, though retail will always be on his mind. “The ultimate goal is to really let people into my world,” he says. “Someday I want to open a shop—or even several shops!”
