Watch of the Week: Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Ocean Commitment Bathyscaphe

Courtesy Blancpain

This handsome, powerful diver is as on-trend aesthetically as it is environmentally friendly.

In this weekly series, we bring you a different timepiece worth collecting now.

The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Ocean Commitment Bathyscaphe, first introduced to the world in October 2014 as part of the watchmaker’s philanthropic initiative to explore and preserve the oceans, is as timely today as ever. Not only is this limited-edition diver on target with this summer’s hottest watch color, blue, but with a portion of its proceeds designated to support the brand’s ongoing environmental efforts, it’s also the perfect accessory for Earth Day this Friday. (Blancpain’s commitment to the ocean also includes support for scientific expeditions such as National Geographic’s Pristine Seas and Laurent Ballesta’s Project Gombessa.)

A flyback chronograph with a uni-directional satin-brushed grey ceramic bezel, blue ceramic inserts, and Liquidmetal® hour markers, this gorgeous water piece is resistant to 300 meters and houses the brand’s powerhouse Manufacture-made, self-winding Caliber F385 movement, offering 50 hours of power reserve. Just 250 have been made, each retailing for the price of $20,200, with approximately 5 percent of each sale benefitting the brand’s Ocean Commitment program, making it an exclusive showpiece you can really be proud of.
