Here at Departures, we love a one-of-a-kind gift—which is why we were thrilled to find out that one of our favorite Upper East Side boutiques, Hayward House, is offering a unique experience just in time for Valentine’s Day: Through late February, you or your Valentine can sit for a charcoal portrait by artist Claudia Munro Kerr, or opt to have the artist create a likeness from a photograph ($1,500).
Frequenters of Hayward House will recognize the hand of Munro Kerr; her palette knife portrait of Slim Keith, designer Marin Hopper’s step-grandmother, hangs above the fireplace in their tony East 70th St. shop. More recently, Munro Kerr sketched the likeness of actor Ethan Peck, a friend of the Hopper’s by way of their shared old Hollywood lineage (pictured above).
When you stop by for a sitting, we suggest leaving a little extra time to browse—the Fortuny velvet shoppers ($1,800) and painted python crossbodies ($5,000) are just as precious, and timeless, as one of Munro Kerr’s portraits.
