Women’s evening timepieces are replacing the cocktail ring. Here, five diamond-faced conversation starters.
Earlier this year, the annual Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, a showcase of the newest timepieces by the world’s foremost watch brands (see the watches here »), took place in Geneva. Much of the focus was on evening watches. Many watchmakers released artistic dials that are pure attention-getters, with enamel painting, marquetry, and diamonds. The diamond masterpieces shown here, currently in stores, are much more than bejeweled watches. In many instances, technicians have spent years collecting the perfectly matched stones. Expert gem setters have spent thousands of hours meticulously carving the gold for the settings, placing and securing each of those shimmering stones by hand. A note to shoppers: Act fast. Due to the laborious nature of their creation, the actual number produced is very small.
