Not all handmade sweaters are handmade,” says knitwear designer Josh Bennett. “Sometimes it’s a mix of hand and machine knitting.” The 34-year-old, who got his start with Michael Bastian, has a small range of truly start-to-finish-handmade sweaters on the ground floor of Bergdorf Goodman’s men’s store. From Fair Isles to cable-knit cardigans, each sweater is numbered (Bennett makes only two in each size), dated, and has at least one stitch impossible to replicate on a machine. And should you want a custom version, Bennett now has a bespoke business. Sweaters start at $800, with prices adjusted for stitch techniques and yarns. joshbennettnyc.com.
