Knit Picking: The Name to Know in Men's Sweaters

Hand-made to the very last stitch, Josh Bennett is changing the craft of making the perfect sweater for men.

Not all handmade sweaters are handmade,” says knitwear designer Josh Bennett. “Sometimes it’s a mix of hand and machine knitting.” The 34-year-old, who got his start with Michael Bastian, has a small range of truly start-to-finish-handmade sweaters on the ground floor of Bergdorf Goodman’s men’s store. From Fair Isles to cable-knit cardigans, each sweater is numbered (Bennett makes only two in each size), dated, and has at least one stitch impossible to replicate on a machine. And should you want a custom version, Bennett now has a bespoke business. Sweaters start at $800, with prices adjusted for stitch techniques and yarns.
