A handful of the country's most well-curated boutiques.
Shiprock, Santa Fe, New Mexico
There are a lot of “Southwestern” stores in Santa Fe. But walking through Shiprock’s unassuming façade on the town’s historic plaza is a refreshing change. Owner Jed Foutz grew up in a family of Indian art traders in the Navajo Nation. And as a fifth-generation art dealer, Foutz has a well-trained eye for jewelry, textiles, and pottery, which comes through in his nonclichéd store. In addition to a small selection of vintage weavings, you will find rustic basics from Japanese cult brand Visvim and its women’s line, WMV. And, okay, this is Santa Fe—Foutz has a beautiful selection of turquoise jewelry. Consider this a welcome Santa Fe tourist trap. 53 Old Santa Fe Trail; 505-982-8478; shiprocksantafe.com. —KMDS
