A handful of the country's most well-curated boutiques.
Joan Shepp, Philadelphia
For over 40 years Joan Shepp has dressed Philadelphia’s elite—15 of those years at her boutique on Walnut Street, in the heart of the city’s shopping district. Two years ago, Shepp, along with her daughter and business partner, Ellen, took the boutique a few blocks north, to retail-barren Chestnut Street. The new 9,000-square-foot space offers more room for the racks of pieces by Issey Miyake, Ann Demeulemeester, and (new this season) Donna Karan’s Urban Zen, plus an outdoor garden for postpurchase relaxation. (Or midpurchase contemplation.) One of the store’s constant standouts is the offering of hard-to-find Dries Van Noten eveningwear. 1811 Chestnut St.; 215-735-2666; joanshepp.com. —LJ
