The annual contemporary art/pop culture/shopping bacchanal that is Art Basel Miami Beach returns this week. As usual the event will offer opportunities to sleuth the Convention Center for Damien Hirsts and Takashi Murakamis and Wolfgang Tillmans's. But as Basel Miami extends well past its exhibitions and collectors' dinners, fashion and lifestyle brands have added their hands to the mix—which means there's no shortage of shopping options (for art, of course, and otherwise). Below, we run down four temporary shops occurring only during Basel week.
Miami has two go-to boutiques for ultra-chic, top-tier fashion: The Webster and Alchemist. The latter is known for its edgier vibe—stocking the likes of Rick Owens and Chrome Hearts—and has two noteworthy shopping options this year. One: On December 2nd, Alchemist will host the jewelry designer Stephen Webster at its newly opened Design District location (jewelry only, as it turns out) with an event catered by London's Mark Hix (140 NE 39th St., Suite 104). The store will be selling Webster's new book, Gold Struck. Two: At Alchemist's Lincoln Road location, the store is offering a globally exclusive collaboration line between Chrome Hearts and Virgil Abloh of Off-White (ostensibly one of the coolest streetwear labels around at the moment). There will be tees (pictured above), hats, and much more, and the store itself is worth checking out, too—it's a little glass box tucked into the wild and wonderful Herzog and deMeuron modernist parking garage on Alton and Lincoln. 1111 Lincoln Rd.
The Swiss watchmaker will be introducing three limited-edition timepieces dubbed the Classic Fusion Cruz-Diez at the brand's Design District galerie. While there, be sure to check out an exclusive installation by the graffiti artist Mr. Brainwash. 140 NE 39th St., Suite 103.
MoMA Design Store
Beginning on Monday November 30th, MoMA's Design Store will temporarily open its doors in collaboration with the skateboard brand The Skateroom at the famed Delano Hotel on 17th and Collins. Together, they're selling skate decks printed with Andy Warhol works—Campbell's soup cans and Marilyn Monroe's portrait very much included! 1685 Collins Ave.
Suite 1521—the exclusive member's only shopping network based in NYC—is taking up residence at the Loews Miami Beach this year. (And the good news is, you don't need to be a member to peruse the racks.) Co-founders Kim Kassel and Lizzie Tisch will be stocking five brands at their Basel sojourn: Tim Ryan, Alison Lou (we love her emoji pieces), The Rialto Jean Project, Markus Lupfer, Anya Hindmarch. 1601 Collins Ave; for more info, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
