High-fashion Men’s Sneakers That Are Fit for the Office

By Jason Sheeler on July 23, 2018

What started in Paris with a runway upgrade of a so-called Dad Sneaker at Balenciaga is now just a sidewalk reality in the United States: sneakers are wardrobe essentials. Every major fashion house offers one—or a dozen.

This summer, offerings for men range from solid white and minimal to black, iridescent, and incredibly comfortable. And because the range of luxury sneakers is so vast, now is a great time, if you haven’t yet, to pair them with traditional office wear. (Style tip: if you think the idea might be a bit too fashion-forward, go with an all-black pair like the ones we've included here.)

Just debuted, Louis Vuitton’s new runner has a fully knit upper that takes almost two hours to construct.

Also on the knit sneaker trend—which stems from the popularity of Nike’s Flyknit range—comes a version from famed cashmere house Loro Piana.

With nods to two prevailing trends—all white and Dad Style—this Valentino sneaker, which is available in stores now, is sure to fly off virtual and brick-and-mortar shelves.

Tods

At Milan men’s fashion week in June, Tods unveiled their latest direction with a sneaker drop. The No-Code sneaker, in black leather and neoprene, teases to what other surprising drops the Italian leather goods giant has coming forth.

For many men, summer means a slip-on shoe. And a slip-on shoe, for many men, only means one from Vans. With a reverent wink, Bottega Veneta now pays homage to the iconic skateboard shoe—and offers guys a way to wear it to work.

The Stan Smith all white lace-up has dominated the sneaker game for years now, with designers (like Raf Simons) either collaborating with Adidas or paying homage with their own version.

Hermès

With every product category Hermès takes on, they make it their own, from pencil cases to picnic baskets. Their range of men’s sneakers is no exception. This one features a flash of that classic Hermès orange.

Comme des Garçons x Nike

One of the first major designers to collaborate with an established sneaker company, every drop Nike and Comme des Garçons has sells out fast and becomes a cult hit. These all black, relatively simple CDG x Nikes are going fast, but similar styles are available. (And they always pop up on eBay.)

Shop: COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Waffle Racer, $340; available in-store only at New York's Dover Street Market or here at Stadium Goods.

Ermenegildo Zegna

These sneakers just debuted on the Ermenegildo Zegna Couture runway in June in Milan—the brand’s spring 2019 show—but they’re available now. Creative director Alessandro Sartori’s new Cesare features an extra-light rubber sole with the house’s XXX signature on the side. The overlapping construction makes them extremely comfortable too.

Shop: Ermenegildo Zegna mesh and leather Cesare sneaker, $595
