“The attitude is not too precious,” New York designer Joseph Altuzarra says of the fur in his fall collection, including his fox coat (pictured). That easy, breezy sentiment describes the mink, sable, and Mongolian-lamb shearling on fall runways. Technological advancement and customer desire have dovetailed, and other designers, including Max Mara and Dennis Basso, are delivering pelts both weightless and whimsical. “I’m interested in the idea of a more relaxed and nonchalant approach to wearing fur,” says Altuzarra. “I love the idea of a woman wearing a fur simply to the corner deli to buy some milk!”
