Watch of the Week: Oris Staghorn Restoration Limited Edition

A new dive watch teams up with the Coral Restoration Foundation to directly support the conservation of the world’s reefs.

In honor of World Ocean’s Day, we’re turning our spotlight on Swiss watch brand Oris and their new high-performance diver’s watch, the Staghorn Restoration Limited Edition. The timepiece, which debuted at Baselworld 2017, is a natural continuation of brand’s Sea Heroes program (run with Scuba Diving Magazine), which honors individuals working toward marine conservation. The limited-edition design, created in partnership with non-profit organization Coral Restoration Foundation (one of Oris’s 2014 honorees) goes one step further, directly helping to fund programs that help to preserve the world’s reefs.

About the Partnership

The Coral Restoration Foundation has made it its mission to combat the damage to the world’s delicate coral reefs through education and direct action. (In an effort to repopulate native reefs, the NGO re-planted more than 22,000 new corals in 2015 alone.) Oris has promised to help aid in their efforts by donating a portion of the proceeds generated from the sale of the 2,000 Staghorn Restoration Limited Edition timepieces.

Main features of the Oris Staghorn Restoration Limited Edition

The new Staghorn Restoration Limited Edition watch is part of the brand’s longstanding Aquis collection, re-launched earlier this year, and has several special features that distinguish it as the coral reef cooperative: The dial is dark blue in honor of the oceans. The orange accent color used for the central seconds hand, bezel key, date, and day underline reflects the hue of Staghorn coral. The back of the case is engraved with a Staghorn coral and the number of the watch. And the presentation box is made using regenerative algae.

The 43.5mm stainless steel diver is powered by an automatic mechanical movement and features a uni-directional rotating bezel with a ceramic insert. Water resistant to 300 meters, the watch’s hands and markers are filled with Super-LumiNova for easy underwater reading.

Price and Availability

Available for sale in authorized retail stores around the world beginning in September, only 2,000 Staghorn Restoration Limited Edition watches will be made. The piece comes in two versions: one with a black rubber strap, safety anchor, and quick adjustment claps for $2,400, and with a stainless steel bracelet for $2,750.
