Watch of the Week: Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Italia Independent Collection

In its ongoing collaboration with Italia Independent and founder Lapo Elkann, Hublot unveils a new collection of timepieces incorporating fabrics from the House of Rubinacci.

Just last week, Hublot once again made good on its mission, to celebrate “The Art of Fusion,” with the launch of a new watch collection. Made in partnership with frequent collaborator Lapo Elkann of Italia Independent and renowned Italian tailor Rubinacci, the limited-edition series of six designs is the epitome of Italian sprezzatura.

Behind The Collaboration

Elkann and Rubinacci make for a particularly charming combination of old and new school Italian style. Elkann has made bespoke his mission, and as the mind behind Italia Independent, Ferrari’s “Tailor Made” program, and the Garage Italia Custom projects, he’s responsible for some of the luxest creations on the road, water, or air. Having worked with Hublot on two other projects since 2014, Elkann tapped the Italian house of Rubinacci, a family-run business since 1932, and a tailor that Elkann himself uses, for his latest collaboration with Hublot.

In its workshop, the House of Rubinacci carefully keeps more than 60,000 square meters of fabrics, and it’s there that Luca Rubinacci, a third-generation tailor and master of the house’s Milan location, Elkann, and Hublot zeroed in on a collection of tartan wool weaves from the 1930s to use for the watches’ unique straps and dials.

The Watches’ Main Features

The collection is made up of six unique, limited-edition designs, which pair Hublot’s 45mm Classic Fusion case in three different materials—titanium, black ceramic, and the brand’s signature King Gold—with six different vintage Rubinacci fabrics.

Each watch houses the same automatic chronograph movement with 280 components and 42 hours of power reserve. Every case features a combination of satin and polished finishes and is equipped with a sapphire crystal with anti-glare treatment and the Italia Independent logo at 6:00.

Price and Availability

Each watch is being created in a limited edition of 50 or 100 pieces, depending on the model. The titanium watches retail for $15,100; the ceramic watches for $16,100, and the King Gold for $35,100. All watches will be available in Hublot boutiques and at select retailers globally starting in April.
