For Sophisticated Sweaters: Tabula Rasa

While Emily Diamandis’s Tabula Rasa is only in its fourth year, the designer brings over fifteen years in the fashion industry to the table. Something of a knitwear aficionado, she’s created designs for everyone from Uniqlo to Altuzarra. Her own knitwear and home goods line was born out of far-flung upbringing and a love of travel—Diamandis has oscillated between the U.K., Hong Kong, and New York City over the course of her career. Armed with a vast knowledge of every stitch and wash from Japan to Argentina and a desire to create something that mimicked the comforts of home (currently downtown Manhattan), Emily set out to create a world of knits: for the plane, for the couch, for an evening out on the town. Recent standouts include the travel wraps and cozy pullovers one might expect, but also a body skimming, one-shoulder evening-worthy dress, and a pair of wide-legged, heather grey dress trousers. The specificity of her collection—she doesn’t dabble in fabrics beyond the hand knit and crocheted ones—is its greatest strength: “I’m creating for a woman who cherishes craftsmanship and appreciates the skill and time it takes for a textile to be made by hand,” says Diamandis. Her wearables are so intricate, so luxurious, and so incredibly far from frumpy, we’re always looking forward to sweater weather.
