Looking Back at Designer Carolina Herrera’s Storied Career
The New York-based designer is stepping down after 37 years at the top of her eponymous fashion house. Here, we take a look back at some of her career highlights.
For 37 years, Carolina Herrera has been one of the world's preeminent designers. The Venezuelan-born Herrera, now 79, announced today she would take on a new role at her company: global brand ambassador and that Wes Gordon would assume the reins as creative director. To be sure, Mrs. Herrera always been the best ambassador for her brand of refined and glamorous womenswear. Here, a few of her greatest and most stylish moments, including her early days with Andy Warhol at Studio 54, dressing Oscar winners, launching legendary fragrances, and what she never wants anyone to say about her.

Herrera will show her fall 2018 collection Monday night. And on Tuesday—after 37 years in business—Herrera, now 79, will take a new job at her company, as "global brand ambassador." Wes Gordon, a New York based designer who previously had a womenswear label in his own name and has designed for Mrs. Herrera for two seasons, will become creative director. "Just don't say I'm retiring," she told the New York Times.
