Watch of the Week: Breguet Reine de Naples Mini 8928

Breguet debuts a new set of women’s watches boasting historic, regal roots.

This year, legendary Swiss watch brand Breguet honors the first wristwatch ever made with six new mini-sized additions to the Reine de Naples timepiece collection. These watches pay tribute to the design created for the Queen of Naples, Caroline Murat, sister of Napoleon Bonaparte, who is said to have requested a “thin, oblong repeater watch with a silver dial and Arabic numerals, mounted on a wristlet of hair woven with gold threads,” which Abraham-Louis Breguet debuted in 1812.

Main Features of the Breguet Reine de Naples Mini 8928

One of six new variations to debut at Baselworld 2017, the Reine de Naples Mini 8928 is crafted in same oval shape that characterizes the collection, with a 18-karat white gold case, a white mother-of-pearl dial, and a diamond-set flange and bezel. Bold Arabic numerals appear in black, shaded with a rich pink “shadow,” graduating in size from largest at 12:00 to smallest at 6:00. An offset inner round dial indicates the time with hour and minute hands.

A petite piece measuring just 33mm in height and 24.95mm in diameter, the Reine de Naples Mini 8928 watch features a single diamond-set ball-lug at 6:00 that connects the bottom of the case to the pink leather calfskin strap. The crown, positioned at 4:00 so as not to detract from the oval case design, features a single briolette diamond.

What’s Inside the Breguet Reine de Naples Mini 8928

The watch is powered by a mechanical self-winding movement, the Caliber 586/1, which features a silicon balance wheel that reduces friction (limiting the frequency by which the watch needs to be serviced) and offers 38 hours of power reserve. Each movement and each case is individually signed and numbered.
