Class Act of the Week: Blake Lively

The actress pulls off a smartly self-styled look during NYFW.

A few hours after Michael Kors’ 2017 Fashion Week fall show ended on Wednesday, Blake Lively changed clothes. She had been seated next to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour wearing, it could be said, a very-Blake-Lively floral dress: bright, sparkling, and ruffled. Perhaps inspired by the dark and layered look on the Kors runway, the actress (who has famously claimed to never use a stylist) made a swift wardrobe change before heading to a presentation by Marchesa, giving us a sleeker Lively as a result.

The 29-year-old (who we'll see next in September's All I See is You) layered and layered some more. But, instead of ending in chaotic parts, her look synergized seamlessly into one sensible whole. Lively draped a wool houndstooth three-quarter-length over a chevron mink coat to keep the somewhat dated motifs relevant. Breaking up the weighty proportions of the layers, Lively styled a flirtatious crop top above a studded, formfitting flounce skirt for a discreet skin-baring touch at her midriff—tastefully putting her Don Saladino–trained physique on display (she gave birth to Ines, her second child with husband Ryan Reynolds, this past September). Capping off the look: opaque, retro sunglasses by Michael Kors and white python pumps by Christian Louboutin.
