Berluti made a big Splash in Monte Carlo last month as they opened the doors to their first store in Monaco—situated alongside the Hotel de Paris—and second in the French Riviera. It’s a timely opening with the Grand Prix in plain sight and the annual high season quickly approaching.
The front doors of the boutique are a reflective diptych showcasing the harbor, the Hermitage, and the eloquent curve of Avenue Princesse Alice that glisten in front of it. Inside the intimate 915-square-foot space is a back wall lined floor-to-ceiling with amber bottles, which reference the tincture that was used for more than a century by the house to create its iconic leather patina. The first floor holds a selection of shoes, leather goods, and, for the moment, a vibrant display of their latest beach capsule.
The sandy coast and sparkling waters of the French Riviera served as the perfect backdrop for the luxurious new collection, which hit stores globally a week prior to the opening and includes a pair of water-repellant swim shorts, a silky polo, Venezia leather men’s sandals, and a range of accessories and holiday beach games.
Each piece combines the refinement of Berluti’s 124-year-old Parisian history with the vibrant Van Assche point of view. Neon threads electrify a navy cotton beach towel and a supple Vittelo Fiore leather weekend bag is finished with flash-tone trim detailing. Among the standout pieces is a petanque set, the region’s iconic ball game, done in collaboration with Obut (the official partner of the French Petanque Federation), which comes inside a zippered leather case lined with flash-tone yellow as well.
While the games are great, there is no greater holiday activity than doing absolutely nothing. And for that, the house has created a lightweight wooden deck chair that folds and carries to the beach with a breeze. It is done in beechwood with a water-repellant, rot-resistant canvas. The navy seat is finished again with the brand’s new logo in bright, bold embroidery.
