Daniel M Pafford Interior Design
New York City

Firm Description
Daniel Pafford began his career as Calypso Home's in-house designer. The boutique focuses on residential interior design primarily in the New York metropolitan area. Projects range from a five-story townhome on the Upper East Side, an open loft in TriBeCa, and summer homes in East Hampton, Long Island. His work has been featured in: Domino Magazine, Lonny Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Hampton’s Cottages and Gardens and NBC Universal’s Style Network.

Approach to Design
Pafford listens to understand the needs of clients while editing and including their own collections throughout the process. For him, a color choice for each room is key in creating a visual story for paint, wall coverings, rugs, upholstery and art. "I like to create a harmonious blend of traditional and modern styles, vintage and new, that looks appropriate for the space," says Pafford. "My favorite periods are 18th and 19th century French and Italian antiques which I like to mix with modernist lighting, furniture and large-scale art. At the same time, rooms flow one to another while maximizing comfort and practicality for the entire home."

Distinguishing Characteristics
Pafford’s work is known for its attention to detail and bold, but balanced color choices for each room. Furnishings exude an old-world charm juxtaposed with modern lighting and art.

Work Influences
The interiors of films from the 30's, 40's and 50's most influence Pafford’s approach to design, as he appreciates the balanced placement of furniture, attention to detail and depth of space. This layered quality and richness to each room creates a vignette at every turn. Designer Kelly Wearstler is an enormous influence and inspiration because of her understanding and use of color, as well as her mix of textures and pattern.
