Contemporary Art Galleries
In the last decade, Rome has seen a number of new contemporary art showcases open that have given more diversity to the obvious older treasures in town. Among these is an outpost of star curator Larry Gagosian (9 Via della Fontanella di Borghese; 39-06/6889-0752; gagosian.com), who counts Cy Twombly and Damien Hirst among his roster. Irish gallerist Lorcan O’Neill (3 Vicolo Dei Catinari; 39-06/6889-2980; lorcanoneill.com) transplanted his London space to Trastevere, bringing with him such prominent names as Richard Long, Francesco Clemente, Kiki Smith, and Rachel Whiteread. A visit offers a nice breath of contemporary contrast to the city’s antiquity.
