Museum of Jewish Montreal Tours

Plateau
Walking Tour

Montreal is home to one of North America’s most vibrant Jewish communities, who settled here mostly before and just following World War II. Evidence of this is perhaps most profoundly felt in the city’s food culture: Montreal has its own style of bagel (a skinnier, sweeter version of its New York counterpart that’s baked in a wood-fired oven) and its own deli tradition (the smoked meat sandwich, a cross between pastrami and corned beef). This tour, by food historian Kat Romanow, starting at the Museum of Jewish Montreal in the Plateau, takes you through the formerly Jewish neighborhoods and shares their hidden histories. Naturally, there will be noshing.
