FINE HOTELS & RESORTS MEMBER

Set on 3.5 private acres between Miami’s North and South Beaches, this Ian Schrager boutique hotel spent four years revamping the midcentury building (his influential, two-decade-old Delano sits just down Collins Avenue). While original marble floors and tile columns in the lobby—and a 1950s-style swimming pool, with a period diving board and all—harken back to Miami’s olden days, new private pool cabanas, custom Le Labo bath kits, and a Latin American–inspired Spanish restaurant by Jean-Georges Vongerichten signal the property’s future-forward ethos. And its bi-level bungalow penthouse, connected by a ribbon-like outdoor staircase, makes the hotel’s architecture a thing of beauty. While the interior, with one bedroom, is a mere 688 square feet—peanuts compared to some of the others in Miami—it’s the 1,900-square-foot outdoor space, with a private lap pool that stuns. (Why waste the gorgeous Miami weather indoors anyway?) The color scheme sticks to white and cerused wood, while Beats by Dre bluetooth speakers in every room, two 48-inch LCD TVs, and iPads (upon request) give the suite a tech-savvy edge. Rainforest showers, La Labo amenities, a marble soaking tub, and a double vanity make getting ready enjoyable, especially when all you’re getting ready for is slipping on a robe and relaxing on the balcony, where the bustle of the world’s most iconic beach is so close yet so far. (Rooms, from $1,004)
