This property, from hotelier Alan Faena and billionaire Len Blavatnik, is located in the completely redesigned Saxony Hotel. Originally built in the 1940s, the new design for the hotel’s 169 rooms and suites (plus 13 penthouse residences) tapped the talents of award winning film director/producer Baz Luhrmann and costume designer Catherine Martin for a modern take on 1950s glamour mixed with contemporary touches, like art by Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons. The property is home to its own beach club; three food and beverage options from Francis Mallmann, Paul Qui, and Gabriel Ask; a 3,000-square-foot theater; and a South American–inspired spa. The opening marks the first phase in the inauguration of the Faena District, an arts-based neighborhood on an emerging stretch of Collins Avenue connecting the northern and southern hubs of the city. (Rooms, from $745)
