The Broad
Los Angeles has become known as a hotbed for art in recent years, attracting a growing number of up-and-coming talents as well as ambitious new galleries from Venice to Highland Avenue to DTLA’s bustling Arts District. LACMA, MOCA, and The Getty all remain bastions of culture in the City of Angels, but if you can only visit one museum, head downtown to The Broad. Opened to much fanfare in September 2015, the Diller Scofidio + Renfro building houses the ever-expanding contemporary art collection of philanthropist Eli Broad. In addition to monumental works by the likes of Jasper Johns, Ed Ruscha, Barbara Kruger, and Jeff Koons, be sure to peek inside the museum’s unique vault, where thousands of additional pieces are stored. Guided tours and before- and after-hours visits are available on request.
