After a total overhaul by the late Alberto Pinto, the regal, Regency-style hotel reopened in 2015 with unabashedly opulent interiors saturated in rich colors and sumptuous textures. The new design taps British talent for fabrics, custom furniture, and craftsmanship (it took 2,000 hours to complete the stenciling), and while technology is up-to-date it comes disguised: consider flat-screen TVs in gold-gilded frames and antique desks with hidden compartments for power plugs. Each of the 50 rooms and 43 suites come with its own 24-hour butler. What’s just outside the hotel is no less glamorous: Hyde Park, the Queen’s Garden, the western edge of the Buckingham Palace gardens and, a short walk away, Knightsbridge. (Rooms, from $715)
