At Barrafina, seats at the bar put the chefs on display as they turn out mind-blowing tapas. The tender octopus presented with a touch of olive oil, garlic, and chili is unforgettable—but then again, so are the vast majority of dishes on offer here, including their bites of sea anemone, pintxos morunos (pork kebabs), and carabineros (head-on shrimp). The white-hot spot doesn’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait: Calling it popular is an understatement, which is why they’ve expanded to two more outposts in the city (on Adelaide Street and Drury Lane) since opening in 2007.
