Red Frog

San Antonio

Portugal is largely beer-and-wine country, but there’s been a surge in cocktail bars of late, especially in Lisbon, where the popularity of Gin Tonicos paved the way for local interest in mixed drinks. Red Frog, which opened in 2015 just off Avenida de Liberdade, is a stylish speakeasy inspired by the Prohibition Era. There’s a lot of leather to give the space a private club feel but whimsical touches, like red ceramic frogs by Bordalo Pinheiro randomly decorate the bar, too. The menu is expansive: 28 seasonal cocktails range from modernized classics to fruit-forward Tiki drinks to playful concoctions like The Wolfgang, a mezcal-based tipple with chili liqueur, agave syrup, padron peppers, and tea.
