Tucked away in a pretty residential neighborhood just west of the city center, Palacio Ramalhete doesn’t have the sprawl of the more famous palace hotels, but that’s exactly why we’re so charmed by this 12-room sanctuary. There’s a coziness about the public spaces that makes the property feel genuinely inviting, whether it’s the library stocked with books on Portuguese poetry or the small palm tree-shaded pool. The rooms are full of personality, too, but never over designed. One of the suites has converted the palace’s old kitchen and uses its copper fireplace as the focal point of the lounge area, highlighting the unit's unique architectural layout to maximum effect.
