Manuel Tavares
A local treasure that has been serving Lisboetas since it opened in 1860, located seconds away from Rossio Square, Manuel Tavares is Lisbon’s quintessential wine shop, with a cellar dedicated entirely to its Port collection. Don’t be distracted by the charcuterie or boxes of chocolate, you’re here for the fortified wine. Floor-to-ceiling shelves are heaving with bottles of tawny, ruby, and white Port that range from brand-new expressions to vintages so old they’re cloaked in dust. (An 18th-century reserve from Taylor’s fetches around 4,000 Euro.) It helps that staff is generous with tasting pours, allowing visitors to get a better understanding of what they want before making a purchase.
