What was your most surreal travel experience?
While traveling to Dubai to meet a new client, I was forced to stay until I designed a Bali over-water resort for him. What was meant to be a two-hour meeting turned into a four-day design charrette. Basically, he held me hostage until I could design my way out!
What’s the best swimming spot you’ve ever been to?
Capri. I took a day trip to Capri while boating in Italy (my first visit there in my life). We approached a cave opening and I turned around to see my favorite house of all time — Villa Malaparte. There I had my dream swim between two of the most beautiful things I had ever seen, in the deepest blue Mediterranean water.
The best place to disappear?
Casa Wabi. When I visit, I go into a meditative experience hovering somewhere between architecture, art, and the serenity of being on a rustic beach in the middle of nowhere.
