The Weinstein Company
Sometimes interesting films—and interesting performances—can get lost in the end of the year awards melee. Case in point, Michael Keaton’s turn as Ray Kroc, the man who took a San Bernardino burger stand named McDonald’s and transformed it into the global fast-food conglomerate we all know and love (or love to hate) today. From There Will Be Blood to Steve Jobs, American cinema has evinced a penchant of late for eviscerating the dark side of the Horatio Alger myth: ruthless businessmen steamrolling all the little people on their way to world domination. But with Keaton you know you’ll always get a sui generis performance, and his take on Kroc as simultaneously reptilian and relatable seems like particularly apropos viewing these days.
